The Brewhouse had a very deep floor plan with no daylight reaching the middle of the building, and relatively small window openings which were originally designed to keep light and animals out. The Brewhouse was rich in heavy industrial building detail and character.
The Brewhouse was restored and converted into apartments while contrasting the original features with modern living interiors. The creation of a ‘winter garden’ at the heart of the building created a necessary top-lit lightwell and circulation space. Massive granite and limestone walls, exposed timber roof beams and arched windows were combined and contrasted with modern elements forming contemporary living and sleeping areas.
A intelligent compact design using juxtaposition of elements and tones. This is a seamless solution with high attention to detail. The kitchen also provides the perfect separation between spaces.
