The alterations had to meet strict local authority heritage controls and consent conditions and maintain the character of the house from the outside.
The alterations involved re-planning two floors of accommodation, adding a lean-to roof to provide a kitchen, new balcony, new stairs and a full basement. The client wanted a contrast between the old and new with a contemporary feel to the house, a clean minimal approach was taken to the design and a careful approach to letting daylight into the previous warren-like interior.
