An off-grid house with living spaces that filter nature rather than oppose it.

Context

A remote and sensitive coastal environment with a regenerating native landscape and steeply sloping site, with the requirement of an off grid house with world class vistas.

Response

A simple and raw house which is staunchly independent and fully off-grid generating its own power, water and heating and is seen as a ‘living building’. An independent attitude which captures the original tenacity of the miners and loggers that once forged a living in the area.

What does it mean to be a ‘Barrier House’ Capturing the essence of the original barns that were located on the slopes of Blind Bay.
The simple lines and raw timber finish epitomise the site’s sense of place.
